Zimbabwe thrashes Bangladesh in the Tri-Series opener with an all-round performance
Zimbabwe put up a strong performance in the first match of the Afghanistan-Zimbabwe-Bangladesh tri-series in Abu Dhabi.
Strong batting performance
At one point, Zimbabwe was 24-3, with Taskin Ahmed taking the top three wickets to put Zimbabwe in trouble. However, their veteran batsmen, Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine, shared a strong partnership of 150 runs, taking Zimbabwe to 174.
With Zimbabwe at 174, it looked like they would make 300. However, Bangladesh attempted a comeback with their bowling, dismissing Zimbabwe for 220, with 6 wickets down. By the time they reached 234, Zimbabwe had lost 8 wickets. Newman Nyamhuri and Wellington Masakadza shared a crucial 37-run partnership, taking Zimbabwe’s score from 234 to 271.
Destructive Bowling Performance
After a strong batting performance, when Zimbabwe came on to bowl, Tanzid Hasan Tamim played a quick innings, taking Bangladesh to 40 in 6 overs.But when the first wicket fell at 47 runs, then the series of wickets started falling in such a way that the first partnership was of 47 runs, then as the match progressed, no partnership could go beyond 32 runs, and the entire Bangladesh team was all out for 172 runs. And it seemed as if “A person running away had slipped and fallen on a banana peel.”
In this match, all the bowlers of Zimbabwe took wickets, and Brad Evans took the maximum number of wickets with four wickets, and captain Sikandar Raza took two wickets and won the match by a huge margin of 99 runs and handed Bangladesh a long list of reality checks.
Conclusion:
Now Zimbabwe’s next match is against Afghanistan on the 19th. Afghanistan is a good team, and the match is in Abu Dhabi, so it can be assumed that Afghanistan will also give Zimbabwe a tough fight. There is an ODI World Cup in 2027, matches of which are also being held in Zimbabwe. So, as one of the host nations, Zimbabwe will want to go to the World Cup prepared; hence, these matches are very important from the preparation point of view, and Zimbabwe will also want to show good performance in this tri-nation series.
