Renuka Thakur has become India’s fastest seam bowler to complete 100 wickets across formats when, on 23 October 2025, the Women’s ODI Cricket World Cup match was going on between IndW VS NzW, in which the Indian Women’s Cricket team had already done tremendous batting and scored 340 runs.

After this, when India came to bowl, New Zealand lost their first wicket for 1 run, but the partnership for the second wicket was of 50 runs, which was going on at 5rpo, then when Renuka came to bowl in the 10th over, she bowled Georgia Plummer and took an important wicket.

Then, soon after that, Renuka came in the 12th over and she took a crucial wicket of New Zealand Captain Sophie Devine and bowled Sophie out for 6 runs. Renuka Thakur bowled more economically than the other bowlers in this match. Her figures in this match were 6-0-25-2. This win was very important for the Indian team because before this, the Indian team had been coming after losing 3 matches, and this was a two or die match. By winning this match, India qualified for the Semi-Final and knocked out New Zealand.

Renuka Singh surpassed Jhulan Goswami’s record. Jhulan Goswami had reached this milestone in 143 innings, while Renuka Singh did it in 81 innings.

What is Renuka Thakur’s background?

Renuka belongs to the Parsa village of Shimla. She was born on 2 January 1996. There are currently three people in her family. Her mother, elder brother (Vinod Thakur), and Renuka. Thakur’s father (Late. Kehar Singh Thakur) died in 1999 when she was 3 years old. Then her mother, Sunita Thakur, brought her up. Renuka says that her father was a big fan of Vinod Kambli. Her father wanted someone from his family should play cricket.

Renuka says that “In her village, we used to play with a cloth ball, and the rule was to throw the ball fast and with a twist, otherwise the ball would not reach the batsman. That is how she became a bowler.” Renuka Thakur came to the academy in the 9th class. Renuka’s uncle came and saw that she was the only girl playing cricket with the boys. Her uncle, who lived in another village, came and saw Renuka playing. Renuka’s uncle had some cricketing friends with whom the uncle spoke and arranged for a trial at a new cricket academy that was opening there. Renuka gave trials and got selected.

Dropped from the U-19 team?

Thakur was dropped from the U-19 team early in her career, a decision that deeply hurt her, but the setback only motivated her further. She says that when she was dropped, she felt like the Mam(Selector) had made the wrong decision to drop her. But it was this phase that pushed her to improve.

Renuka Thakur in WPL:

Renuka was sold to RCB for 1.5 crore rupees in the inaugural season of the WPL. Renuka’s performance in the WPL hasn’t been particularly good, except in the first season. Regarding this, she says that RCB backed her despite her poor performance.

Where does the motivation to play come from in the present:

Now this motivation comes from the country, that I have to make the country win, all the teams have come after studying, now what else do I have to do, I have to work double hard, how can I do better, how can I look better as a player.

Conclusion:

India’s next match is against Bangladesh today, on October 26, 2025. This match will serve as a practice match for India, and the entire team will play well in the upcoming matches and hopefully win the World Cup.
